Nepal Medical Council Licenses Foreign Students to Practice Medicine
The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) has announced a new process for foreign students completing their MBBS/BDS degrees in Nepal. Undergraduate medical courses in Nepal last for at least 5.5 years, including a 1-year internship. The courses are taught in English, making it easier for international students.
During their internship, foreign students receive provisional registration from the NMC, which is equivalent to Nepalese citizenship in terms of medical practice. This registration allows both Nepali and foreign students to practice medicine in Nepal.
After graduation, foreign nationals can take the NMC licensing exams. Upon passing, they receive a license to practice in Nepal, just like Nepalese citizens. Notably, the licensing process does not require a good standing certificate from the student’s home country council.
This new guideline ensures that foreign students can smoothly transition into the medical field in Nepal, making it easier for them to pursue their careers.
